8TH NATIONAL ORIENTEERING LONG DISTANCE STOOS

Description

The two Central Swiss orienteering clubs OLG Goldau and OLG KTV Altdorf are jointly organising a national orienteering weekend in the heart of Switzerland in 2024. On Sunday, 29 September 2024, a long-distance orienteering event will take place in the Stoos-Klingenstock running area. The running area is located at an altitude of between 1,200 and 1,700 metres above sea level and consists mainly of alpine meadows, which allow for a fast running pace and place high physical demands on the participants. However, various embedded forest sections with fine terrain structures require good map skills. The terrain levels in the running area will also make for interesting route choices. The last part of the race is in the immediate vicinity of the mountain village of Stoos with its various tourist facilities and residential buildings. Interested hikers and walkers can register for one of the open categories (open short, open medium, open long) on the day of the race. More detailed information about the event and an example of an older orienteering map of the running area are available at https://www.urschwyzer-ol.ch/8nat/.
